Hi. I am Mary Lynn Allen.
I love to eat lime popsicles in summer and toast with homemade jam year-round. I bake kick-ass cookies and pies. Music, visual art, travel, and good food are vital to my well-being.
I live in Providence, Rhode Island. Or, maybe I should say that I ended up in Providence, Rhode Island. I am a wanderer (three continents and seven states!), so I can't say Providence is permanent and I just may be holding out for a big move/return to the west coast. But, I'm good for now and, for me, home is in the kitchen, wherever I am.
Two years ago, I quit my job in higher education and sold my house in Baltimore so I could take a big honkin' time out from life as I knew it. My time out consisted of putting myself through the Baking and Pastry program at Johnson & Wales University. It was fun, challenging, exhausting, exciting, and crazy all at the same time. All I wanted to do was bake and learn, learn and bake. And, that's what I did. I loved it and have no regrets. And, as a result, I love baking, cooking, and being in the kitchen even more.
Now, I have a great day job in a fun company doing philanthropic things. Outside of that, I bake, write, blog, and teach some private and community based baking classes.
It's pretty simple, but it makes me happy.
Food, family, friends, impeccable desserts, music, art, travel, quirky movies.
